MIDDLESBROUGH Mayor Dave Budd has given his backing to the Royal British Legion’s 2016 Poppy Appeal.

The appeal is the Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign and will this year be launched on Thursday, October 27.

Every year the charity responds to more than 165,000 calls for help and helps Armed Forces families with £1.7m every week in direct welfare support – more than £90m each year.

Mr Budd has signed a letter, along with the leaders of Hartlepool, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton Councils urging people across Teesside to support the appeal.

Individuals, volunteer groups and organisations in Middlesbrough are also being sought who would be interested in helping with this year’s appeal. For more information contact the Poppy Appeal’s Community Fundraiser at soddy@britishlegion.org.uk.
