THREE armed forces charities have benefited to the tune of more than £2,500 thanks to funds raised at the Mayor of Stockton’s duck race held in June 2014 as part of the Armed Forces Week celebrations.
Representatives from The Rifles, The Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund and 1 Close Support Battalion REME received £862.22 each during a special presentation at Stockton Town Hall hosted by the Mayor of Stockton, Barbara Inman, on Monday 26 January.
The duck race was launched by the Mayor from the Infinity Marine Café in Stockton. Members of the public were encouraged to buy a duck to enter the race at a price of £1 while businesses could show their support for the forces by purchasing larger ducks for £100 each.
The Mayor of Stockton, Councillor Barbara Inman, said: “We should always remember to support and respect the sacrifices that our armed forces make for all of us, so I am very proud to present these cheques to three of our most worthy regiments.
“I’d like to thank all of the residents and businesses from across the Borough that contributed to the great amount that was raised, £2,586.66 in total, which will help to support veterans and their families.”
