North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Lockers have been installed at a number of Metro stations across Tyne and Wear, including Monument, Four Lane Ends, Gateshead, Heworth and Park Lane.

Between them, the five Metro stations where the lockers are based see 19 million Metro passengers pass through them every year, making them very popular locations for people to pick up their online purchases.

Amazon Lockers are self-service kiosks where customers can collect or return their parcels at a time and location that’s convenient for them.

After shopping on the site and selecting their nearest locker location as the delivery address at the check-out, Amazon customers receive a unique pickup code from the online retailer. On screen instructions at locker locations will then take customers step-by-step through the process of picking up their parcels.

There are over 1,000 Amazon Lockers in the UK with locations including shopping centres, petrol stations, convenience stores and transport hubs.

Paul Walker, Customer Service Director at DB Regio Tyne and Wear, which operates the Metro on behalf of Nexus, said: “We hope these lockers will make life easier and more convenient for our customers, particularly ordering items during the busy festive season. The locations we’ve chosen fit with the daily routine of many of our commuters, enabling them to pick up their parcels on their way home.”
