The week offers a chance to tuck into cuisine from the town’s huge range of eateries which offer food from around the globe.

With a variety of cuisines available, diners are sure to find something they like from options including Italian, South Indian, American diner style, Caribbean, and Portuguese.

Diners will be encouraged to step outside of their comfort zones and try something new, or revisit an old favourite, with exclusive menus and deals on offer.

Restaurants taking part are Akbars, Al Forno, Bahia Bistro, Central Park, Dosa Houze, Kebabish Original, La Pharmacie, Manjaro’s, Oodles Noodles, Pixies Diner, Purple Pig, Taste of Arabia, The Restaurant at Thistle and Uno Momento.

The exclusive offers being promoted by the individual restaurants can be found at www.lovemiddlesbrough.com.

Last year’s inaugural event proved a hit with diners and restaurants alike with eateries reporting big sales increases.

Middlesbrough Restaurant Week 2015 – in partnership with the Growing Middlesbrough local food initiative – will run until Sunday, July 19.

Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “Middlesbrough’s already well known for its diverse range of restaurants and bistros, and Restaurant Week is a great showcase for that offer.

“Diners eating at participating restaurants can look forward to special menus, discounts and other offers, and we hope their experience will encourage them to come back and spread the word.”

Joanne de Melo, of Bahia Bistro on Linthorpe Road, said: “We are very pleased to be taking part in Restaurant Week again this year, because it brings in new customers and promotes our business.

“Last time, our sales went up by about 15%, and even customers who had never visited our restaurant before were helping to spread the word about us.”

Liam Percy, of Al Forno on Southfield Road, said: “Restaurant Week is fantastic for Al Forno; we were really keen to get involved with it again this year and all the staff can’t wait!

“It’s our chance to shout about our restaurant and there’s a real buzz about the place during Restaurant Week.

“It’s always great to meet new diners and it’s even better to see them returning on a regular basis.”
