durham county council largeNew mums and mothers-to- be are, as part of National Breastfeeding Celebration Week, are being invited to find out more about the support available to them in County Durham.

The annual awareness week, which runs from 20 June to 26 June 2016, aims to bring parents and health professionals together to help create a more breastfeeding friendly culture.

Cllr Lucy Hovvels, Durham County Council’s cabinet member for adult and health services, said: “National Breastfeeding Celebration Week provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase all the good work that is happening across the county to support women and their families.

“During this week and the weeks that follow we would like to welcome all mums to be who are thinking about breastfeeding or still undecided to visit their local ‘Breastfeeding Café’.

“Pregnant women and mums who are already breastfeeding their baby can drop-in to our relaxed sessions offering information, guidance and support from qualified staff and supporters and ask any questions that they might have.”

Breastfeeding cafes are just one of several initiatives taking place across the county to support breastfeeding mothers.

To find out more about them, or any of the other local breastfeeding support available, speak to your midwife, health visitor or visit www.breastmilk.co.uk
