Mentors across the country are being encouraged to enter the National Mentoring Awards, launched to help inspire more people to come forward as mentors. This is set to be the biggest ever national celebration to honour and recognise the ‘Mentoring Excellence’ of individuals and organisations, covering all sectors of business, education, sport and society.

The Rt. Hon Lord Young, a Patron of the initiative states, “The National Mentoring Awards play a really important part in raising the profile of mentoring in all activities and walks of life. In a fast changing world mentoring is of ever increasing importance and I commend the National Mentoring Awards for encouraging mentoring in all its forms.” Lord Young goes on to say, “I had a mentor when I started my first business and he saved me more than once. I have acted as a mentor many times and it is very rewarding to both parties.”

As the UK prepares to honour mentoring champions across the country Chelsey Baker, Founder of the National Mentoring Awards says, “As a nation we need to give thanks not only to those who mentor but to the mentoring initiatives that do so much to help change the lives of so many people from all walks of life.” Chelsey adds, “Our aim in launching the awards is to create a new generation of ‘real’ relatable mentoring role models across business and society to inspire more people to mentor.”

Award categories include: Youth, Business Start-ups, SME’s, Corporate, Education, Sport, Armed Forces, Diversity, Disability, Health, Media, Music, STEM, Women, Fashion, Charities, Best Mentoring Programme, Mentor and Mentee of the Year.

“Every day thousands of people mentor, many often go unseen and this is why the National Mentoring Awards are so important.” “It’s time to honour and recognise the achievements of talented mentors, each doing their best to make a difference and our aim is to showcase these inspirational mentors.”

We all need help in this world and that’s why mentoring is so important, it helps people in many ways, it gives a sense of purpose to both parties. The relationship developed between mentor and mentee can really help short cut life, business and career hurdles. Mentoring is not only good for society but also good for the soul (and for business too!)

Chelsey adds, “With the uncertainty that surrounds us entering into Brexit, it could not be a more appropriate time for the UK to embrace mentoring. Retention and acquisition of staff is paramount and mentoring can and will provide a better working environment for all.”

Do you know a mentor who deserves to be recognised? Closing date for nominations is 31st January, 2019.
