As well as trying to beat previous race times and compete against friends and family, the region’s largest business membership organisation is giving their members a chance to beat the best of North East business and compete in its Members’ Race, sponsored by Westfield Health.

Charlie Nettle, head of marketing at NECC said: “While members will be competing against each other on titles such as fastest time and the most money raised for their well-deserved charities, this race-within-a-race illustrates the strength of our membership, working together to make a difference.

“Winning member teams will be featured in NECC’s publications and it’s a great opportunity for members to raise their profile while promoting the region, our great businesses and our fantastic charities on a global stage.”

PD Ports is one NECC member that has already signed up to NECC’s Member Race, but NECC employees won’t be getting off lightly. Throughout the year NECC colleagues have been volunteering their time to good causes around the region and will also be entering a team.

The NECC Great North Run team will be running for local member charity, The Toma Fund which offers support to young people and their families in the North East who have been affected by a diagnosis of childhood cancer.

“The Toma Fund is such an inspirational charity to get behind,” said Charlie. “It will be extending its charitable ways on the day, offering refreshments and a well-deserved massage at the end of the race.”

Sue Han, Business Development Consultant at Westfield Health, said: “Westfield Health has worked alongside the British Chambers of Commerce for nearly 15 years, providing our harder working health cover to its members. We’re proud of our strong relationship with North East Chamber and we were keen to be involved, particularly during their 200th anniversary year.”

“As a health and wellbeing provider, we’re especially excited to support the Chamber’s initiative to encourage its members to sign up to the Great North Run, and we’re delighted to be entering a team from Westfield Health. Good luck to everyone on the day!”

This year, the Great North Run, the largest half marathon in the world, will see more than 57,000 runners travel the 13.1 mile route from Newcastle to South Shields. To support The Toma Fund through NECC great North Run team, please visitjustgiving.com/neccgnr/
