Jonathan Walker, Head of Policy and Campaigns, NECC said: “We wholeheartedly agree with the Transport Committee’s view that the uncertainty over whether or not Heathrow will be expanded cannot continue. The lack of clarity on this vital issue is undermining investment decisions by businesses who cannot plan ahead while such a key decision is outstanding.
“In the North East, as a trading region, we need access to a competitive hub airport to enable our businesses access to new and existing markets across the globe.
“As part of our aim to build a Global North East we are committed to championing Heathrow expansion to sustain further economic growth. This is the best option for the North East, allowing us to build on our existing connections and reach a wider range of destinations. We urge the Government to agree to the recommendations of the Airports Commission and permit Heathrow expansion as soon as possible. Further delays only benefit our international competitors and hold back the region and the UK as a whole.”
