‘Time to get online’ offers a training programme though a County Durham Housing Group, Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes, East Durham Homes and Teesdale Housing Association partnership, and aims to raise awareness of the benefits of digital technology and show people that the internet is not as daunting as it may appear.

The next interactive session, on Wednesday, 7 October between 10am and 12pm at Bowburn Community Centre, Durham will team attendees up with a designated ‘Digital Champion’, who will highlight the basics of the online world in an informal setting.

By signing up participants will see the advantages the internet offers, including keeping in touch with friends and family, looking for a new job, saving money and much more.

Vickie Musgrove, Digital Inclusion Project Co-ordinator, said: “There are around 10 million people in the UK who are not currently online, and it is predicted that in this year alone 90% of jobs will require IT skills.

“Our society is constantly evolving and is more and more placed within a digital platform.

“We want to show people that online technology is nothing to be afraid of and the benefits in all aspects of life are endless.”
