Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

New Chairman for Gentoo Group

Sunderland based Housing Association, Gentoo Group, is welcoming Keith Loraine OBE as the new Chairman of its Group Board.

Keith has 40 years’ experience in the housing sector, the last 24 as Chief Executive Officer of Isos Housing Group.  He retired in December 2016 and was awarded an OBE in recognition of his services to housing and the North East community.

Keith joined the Board of Gentoo Group in February 2017 to continue his career in the sector, in a non-executive capacity. Through his role at Isos Housing Group, he brings a wealth of knowledge of the local area, and the North East more widely.  He also has a strong understanding of the requirements of the Homes and Communities Agency as a regulator and will assist Gentoo through his knowledge of governance, finance and performance best practice.

His appointment will be formalised at Gentoo’s AGM later this month.  Gentoo’s current Chairman, Ian Self, will be stepping down from the role following ten years on Gentoo’s Group Board, the last two of those as Chair.

Ian Self, current Gentoo Group Chairman said:  “I am delighted to be welcoming Keith Loraine as my successor.  Keith takes on this important role at a critical time for the Group.  We are facing a number of challenges, and I am confident that with Keith’s vast experience and knowledge, combined with our new Group Board and senior team, he can help take the Group forward to a successful future.”

Gentoo Group’s Chief Executive Officer, John Craggs added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian Self for his hard work and dedication to Gentoo during his period of office and wish him and his family the best of luck for the future.”

Keith Loraine OBE said: “Having been on the Gentoo Group Board since early 2017, I’m passionate about what the Group is aiming to achieve and its vision for great homes, strong communities and inspired people.  I’ve worked in this sector for a long time and always admired Gentoo’s work and in particular its commitment to customers, staff and the City of Sunderland.

“There is a lot to do, but with the support of the Gentoo Team and our valued partners, we can make a positive difference.  I’m looking forward to getting started.”
