New Chief Executive joins Tynedale Hospice at Home

Tynedale Hospice at Home has appointed Mike Thornicroft as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Mike who lives in Tynemouth, brings with him a wide range of experience in service development and delivery and partnership working in the Third Sector. He has a long-standing interest and commitment to ensuring that people with health conditions are effectively supported and cared for.

He was previously Director of Operations at Leeds-based social enterprise The Ahead Partnership where he was responsible for service delivery and development.  The Ahead Partnership delivers activities within educational establishments involving businesses to improve the chances of employability for students.

Prior to this, Mike had 14 years’ experience with the Royal National Institute for the Blind and its associated charity Action for Blind People. His last position with this charity was as Head of Service Delivery and Operations across the Northern region.

Mike said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Tynedale Hospice at Home. It’s a wonderful charity and I am inspired by the innovative way it delivers high quality hospice care to people in our local community.  I am looking forward to working with the team of dedicated staff, volunteers, trustees and supporters to build on this excellent work to ensure that our care and support reaches the people who need it in the heart of the communities we serve.”

He brings with him a unique set of skills which will contribute significantly to the continuous development of our Hospice as we strive to provide care and support to hundreds of people in our local community.”

Mike replaces Alison Hands who stood down as Chief Executive Officer in June after three years in the post. He takes up his post on Monday, 15 October 2018.

Tynedale Hospice at Home provides hospice nursing care to people in their own homes, pre and post bereavement support through its Family Support Services and a Hospital Transport Service to people living in Tynedale, West Northumberland, Ponteland and the surrounding areas.
