NEW CITROËN C5 AIRCROSS SUV TACKLES THE WORLD’S STEEPEST STREET AND COMES OUT ON TOP

Guinness World Records has recently announced that Ffordd Pen Llech in Harlech is now officially the steepest street in the world. Earlier in the year Citröen UK decided to take on the challenge with its flagship C5 Aircross SUV. Benefiting from the Citroën Advanced Comfort® programme, New C5 Aircross sets the benchmark in its segment for driving comfort. Grip Control®, Hill Descent Assist and ConnectedCAM Citroën® join a host of other driver assistance systems to make C5 Aircross perfect for this Welsh adventure!

Guinness World Records has now officially announced that Ffordd Pen Llech, in the historic town of Harlech, Wales, is the steepest street in the world, taking the title previously held by Baldwin Street in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Meandering round a series of tight turns and steep descents, the street provides a challenge for all who tackle it, with a climb of 50 metres over its winding 330-metre course. It was only natural therefore that the UK’s steepest highway should become the perfect place to test New C5 Aircross SUV.

Approaching Ffordd Pen Llech, you can see immediately why the street has gained its formidable reputation, with a gradient of up to 37.5% at its steepest point. New C5 Aircross SUV was able to handle the descent with ease thanks to its Grip Control® technology and Hill Descent Assist, offering supreme levels of traction all the way down. When engaged at speeds below 19mph, and on a gradient of more than 5%, the Hill Descent Assist system works to reduce the chance of slipping by electronically maintaining the vehicle’s speed (as low as 2mph) and brake control, leaving the driver to focus purely on the direction of travel.

In fact, Grip Control® allows drivers to select a host of driving modes to optimise traction on a variety of surfaces, including snow, sand and mud. Acting via the front wheels, Grip Control® brings added peace of mind when driving in arduous conditions without having to carry the additional weight and expense associated with a full four-wheel drive system.

New Citroën C5 Aircross SUV also benefits from the Citroën Advanced Comfort® programme. This includes the brand’s unique suspension system with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions®, a technology that integrates hydraulic bump stops to better control compression and rebound. This ensures that the suspension travel is much more progressive, even on the most adverse of surfaces, allowing New C5 Aircross SUV to set the benchmark for on-road comfort in the C-SUV segment – even when driving down Ffordd Pen Llech.

Another key component of the Citroën Advanced Comfort® programme on New C5 Aircross SUV is the sumptuous Advanced Comfort seats, offered as standard on upper ‘Flair’ and ‘Flair Plus’ trim levels, which have so far accounted for 97% of UK sales. With broad cushions and seat backs, they combine high-density foam at the heart of each seat, a thick, textured foam on the surface and electric adjustment on the driver’s seat. This ensures optimum comfort on any journey.

And it’s not just the famous Welsh street that’s racking up the awards, New Citroën C5 Aircross SUV has recently been named overall ‘Car of the Year’, and ‘Best Medium SUV’ in the 2019 DieselCar & EcoCar ‘Top 50’, thanks to its outstanding modularity and comfort – making it the perfect choice for packing up and heading out on an adventure.

With three individual sliding, folding and reclining rear seats, and a best in class boot volume of up to 720 litres, there is plenty of space for all the family to travel in unrivalled comfort.

New C5 Aircross SUV is packed with the latest technologies to allow you to go exploring in complete confidence, including ConnectedCAM Citroën® a full HD camera system located behind the rear view mirror that can automatically save video recordings in the event of an accident. Citroën Connect Box Emergency & Assistance System (emergency call system) and Citroën Connect Nav also feature. The Connect Nav system includes a three-year subscription to TomTom Live, which provides real time traffic updates via a built-in sim card on-board the vehicle, making it easier than ever to go on that next adventure.
