Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

New city centre Bar, Dancehall & Beer Garden set to open on Cloth Market, Newcastle

A  new all-day bar, dance hall and beer garden is set to open its doors for the first time on the August Bank Holiday weekend following a £350,000 investment into the bar’s transformation.

Market Shaker, on Cloth Market in Newcastle, will be a new creative space for eating, drinking and dancing and promises to serve up the best in craft beer, cocktails and pizza by the slice to a backdrop of some of the finest in disco, funk and soul in Newcastle.

Award-winning mixologist Josh Callon has been recruited to compile a bespoke cocktail menu exclusive to Market Shaker and there will be prosecco on tap, and a beer and lager featuring local independent breweries like Wylam Brewery and national favourites.

When it comes to food, they have left no stone unturned on the quest to secure the best pizza throwers in town. Stand up, Newcastle pizza royalty ’Scream for Pizza’ as they take up their new residency at the venue with their 18” New York-inspired pizzas available by the slice or as whole.

The interior of the venue has been designed in-house and will feature lots of natural light, leather booth seating and installations by local artists, whilst bi-fold doors will lead out to a large beer garden to the rear with an aall-season heated pergola overhead.

The property, which is located in the former Ember Lounge premises, was acquired a few months ago by the former founders of gastro-pub, Jam Jar in Jesmond and the owner of the Dog & Parrot in the city centre. Since then it been subject to a total back to core rip out with over 20 tonnes of rubble and past fixtures and furnishings been removed in the process.

One of the owners of Market Shaker, Rob Clarkson, said “We wanted to come together to establish a destination that offers a fantastic place to meet, eat and drink alongside great music. Music can make or break a night out and is so very often overlooked so curating one hell of a playlist is something we felt very strongly about. Ideally, we want our new space to fulfil the gap that we as customers experience day in, day out when venturing in to town.

“We are hoping that Market Shaker will be a further catalyst in the rejuvenation of the Cloth Market by offering a quality, independent bar and somewhere new to hang-out in the city centre. Whether it’s for a mid-afternoon coffee, drink after work, kicking back in the all-weather beer garden or dancing in to the early morning, we’ve got it covered.”

Once opened Market Shaker will be creating 20 new full and part-time jobs and the owners are using only local trades people in the refurbishment process.

Market Shaker will be giving away 1000 free slices of pizzas to the first people who sign up to the opening evening.  To be in with a chance of getting a slice of the action, follow their Instagram page here www.instagram.com/MarketShakerNewcastle
