The Ashington branch of the North East’s biggest building society is set to get a fresh new look for the New Year.

Newcastle Building Society is creating an enhanced, open plan branch on Station Road as part of a continuing multi-million pound investment programme across the whole of its branch network.

The refurbished branch will provide Society customers with better access to services, information and advice, as well as additional space for transactions.

A community room also forms part of the new design, which will provide a free space in which local people, groups and good causes can hold meetings and events.

To allow the refurbishment work to take place, the branch will close at 1pm on Friday 23 November, with a view to being ready to welcome customers back to a bright and modern new branch environment in February.

Stuart Miller, customer director of Newcastle Building Society, said: “While many financial institutions are closing branches across the region, the Society remains fully committed to maintaining and enhancing a modern branch network that sits right at the heart of our communities.

“Our branch investment programme is designed to ensure our customers have access to the high quality services and facilities that they expect from a modern financial institution.

“Our Morpeth and Cramlington branches are available to serve Ashington customers while refurbishment work is ongoing, and while we are sorry for any inconvenience that the temporary closure of the branch might cause, we think our customers will very much like what they see when it reopens.”
