A Northumberland cake company that has worked with a number of high profile celebrity clients has moved into new premises in order to meet increased demand.
Symphony in Sugar has taken up a three year lease with Arch for 1,600 sq ft premises at Enterprise Court in Cramlington. The business was previously run from the Blyth home of company owners Clare and David Glass.
Since it was established in 2013, Symphony in Sugar has made celebration cakes for Declan Donnelly, Marvin Humes formerly of chart-topping boy band JLS and the family of Mario Falcone, star of reality TV show The Only Way is Essex.
“We needed the additional space because the business had significantly outgrown the kitchen at home,” said David. “Due to the limited space we previously had available, we were turning down around 20 commissions every month so we had no opportunity to grow the business.
“The search for new premises wasn’t straight forward because we needed somewhere that could accommodate all of our specialised design, cooking and decorating equipment as well as our office and admin base. The team at Arch provided fantastic support both in identifying the ideal site for us but also in making the relocation of the business such a smooth process.”
With the move to Cramlington now complete, Clare and David are targeting a 30 percent increase in production and revenues next year and have plans to hire two new bakers and a wedding consultant. The business is also looking to extend its work in the corporate cake and hospitality markets having previously worked in partnership with Newcastle Eagles basketball team, the Metro Radio Arena and North East comedian Chris Ramsey.

With a portfolio of one million square feet of space, Arch provides business space throughout Northumberland including industrial workshop and warehouse units, office buildings, suites, business parks and managed workspace. Property sizes range from approximately 200 sq ft to 40,000 sq ft.
