Screen Shot 2016-05-16 at 13.23.46A South Tyneside village has had a new sign installed to welcome visitors and to promote safe driving.

Harton Village has received its very own welcome sign thanks to funding from the East Shields and Whitburn Community Area Forum.

The sign is on Sunderland Road, in South Shields, just before the entrance into Harton Village and it provides a warm welcome to visitors and residents, as well as a reminder for motorists to drive safely.

Councillor Neil Maxwell, Chairman of the East Shields and Whitburn Community Area Forum, said: “In the past Harton Village has had nothing official to highlight where it is. I am delighted that we were able to provide the funding needed to supply the village with this sign.

“The new sign not only welcome people into to the village but also reinforces the importance of safe driving.”
