A WASHINGTON pyrotechnics firm has stepped up to help ensure a huge charity Diwali celebration in Sunderland goes off with a bang.

Impact Pyrotechnics has become the latest firm to back the event, which will be held at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on October 30.

It promises an evening of fine food and entertainment in a colourful party atmosphere to raise money for SAFC’s charity the Foundation of Light.

Impact Pyrotechnics is one of the North East’s leading fireworks and special effects firms and boasts a number of high profile clients. It also provides displays for corporate entertainment, weddings and other functions.

But after hearing about the Stadium of Light’s inaugural Diwali event, sales and Managing Director Wayne Wilson was keen to get involved.

“Diwali is the Festival of Light and what can be more apt to celebrate such a wonderful occasion than with fireworks?” he said.

“We are all very excited to be part of this big occasion and for our part we plan to create a magical night where we can light up the skies above the city. It will be a fantastic night and it will also raise some very important charity cash. We are proud to be on board for such an important event.”

SAFC is hosting this landmark event after being approached by Sunderland businessman Umesh Patel MBE DL, who wanted to create a huge celebration for the five day Festival of Lights which coincides with the Hindu New Year.

“Since we announced this event we have had an amazing response from businesses looking to get involved, and we were thrilled to be approached by Impact Pyrotechnics,” he said

“Diwali has to have fireworks, but to have a company as highly regarded as Impact Pyrotechnics on hand to create what we know will be the best firework display Sunderland has ever seen, is a real coup for us.”

Guests will be entertained by Bollywood dancers and then get the chance to hit the dancefloor with an Indian Bollywood DJ, while the ladies can enjoy a Henna Corner.

For food lovers there will be a Chaat counter, street food carts and a Grand Diwali buffet featuring everything from curries and rice dishes to salads and poppadums.

A packed dessert bar will offer an array of tasty sweet treats, while guests can enjoy a selection of delicious Diwali drinks.

Gary Hutchinson, Commercial Director at Sunderland AFC, is proud to be able to support such an event. “Since Mr Patel first came to us with this idea, it has grown and grown into what is sure to be one of the biggest and best events the city will see in 2016,” he said.

“I am delighted to welcome Impact Pyrotechnics on board for our Diwali celebrations and we are all looking forward to seeing their fireworks display.

“Since we announced this event, we’ve had an incredible response and we are expecting it will sell out very soon. As well as fantastic night, it’s about raising as much money as possible for the Foundation of Light.”
