An experienced North East construction firm is expanding into a new area of work as it begins a pipeline of projects for the region’s registered housing providers.
Burridge Construction, which recently celebrated 50 years in business, is building bungalows for over 55s on behalf of North Star Housing Group in Darlington Lane, Stockton.
The £870,000 project is part funded by Homes England – formerly the Homes and Communities Agency – and is scheduled for completion in early 2019.
Sarah Fawcett, Head of Development at North Star, “These bungalows will provide high quality, affordable rented homes for older people in a popular area, with the added bonus of bringing a derelict site back into use. We look forward to seeing them completed.”
The site was previously occupied by an empty bungalow, set in large grounds and the project will greatly enhance the local environment.
Having been appointed to help the company win new build work with the region’s registered housing providers, Burridge Commercial Director, Stephen McCoy, said: “We are delighted to have secured this opportunity to work with North Star.
“Having specialised in refurbishment work and commercial new build, we want to respond to government driven agenda to increase the number and quality of new homes being built, year on year, to address the housing shortage.
“This is a very exciting time for the business. After marking 50 years of successful operation we are planning for investment and growth, which will see us move to the next level in the sector – becoming a full service construction partner, rather than a building contractor.”
The business – which is based on the Benton Square Industrial Estate in Newcastle but also has a depot in Wakefield, Yorkshire – employs 160 people and has built a sound reputation carrying out refurbishment and repair contracts throughout the North of England for universities, hospitals, housing associations and private sector clients.
