SupportNewcastle.co.uk has been created to bring local independent businesses, shops and charities together in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The site was designed by Nettl of Newcastle, part of the Wonderstuff Group.
Kerry Neesam, director of Nettl of Newcastle said: “We wanted to do what we could to help our local organisations build a community of support for each other through this difficult time.
“The website is very easy to use with an appealing, friendly look that invites people to get involved. It’s also free.
“Entries are coming through now from a whole range of businesses in and around Newcastle and we’re updating regularly to make sure everyone features quickly.
“Local shops and services can say how they’ve changed the way they operate, maybe switching to takeaways and online sales, so people can see how they can still buy from them.
“For charities it’s an opportunity to talk about what they’re doing and whether they need any particular type of support right now.”
Two of the businesses who have already signed up to be involved are Life Saving Training, a company which delivers tailored first aid and advanced pre-hospital care training, and interior architecture practice Contents Design.
Nigel Scorer, director of Contents Design said: “We found out about SupportNewcastle through a friend who is a photographer and we loved the idea behind it. At a time when we are seeing communities come together in our home lives, it seems a natural move to create a digital platform for businesses to do the same. We hope that it grows in such a way that the community exists both online and eventually in person when we can hold events.”
Helena Sansum, Life Saving Training operations manager said: “We signed up to SupportNewcastle as we’re firm believers in supporting local businesses and the local economy. The website helps to showcase the wonderful businesses that exist in and around Newcastle and helps people to procure services or products they may need now or in the future. It’s great exposure for us.”
