A POPULAR Newcastle city centre bar is now as good as brand new after a New Year’s spruce up.
The City Tavern at Northumberland Road enjoyed a bit of an early spring clean last month, following another busy festive period.
The award-winning venue, which has become renowned region-wide for its high quality food, and huge selection of ales, has carried out the work as part of its ongoing investment.
“After another busy Christmas, we wanted to just stop for a few days and give the place a sparkle,” said events and marketing manager Jamie Seabridge-Cooper.
“We wanted to just smarten up the interior a little bit and ensure that we were on top of any little maintenance issues.
“At City Tavern, we are passionate about keeping our very high standards, and by regularly keeping up with this kind of work, we are able to ensure our customers get what they expect from us.
“We’ve worked hard with a deep clean and a spruce up of all of our public areas, and we’re pleased that we can continue to welcome customers to a bar that looks and feels brand new.”
The City Tavern was taken over by north businessman David King in 2014, who invested £450,000 in a major refurbishment, creating a modern bar that retained the venue’s historic features.
Since then, it has scooped numerous accolades including the Best Cask Ale Pub title last year, just two months after it was named Best Pub in the Tyne & Wear Lifestyle Awards.
It has also become renowned for its home-cooked food, and its gluten-free selection of meals and ales.
