Newcastle bar to host football favourites

A NEW city centre bar is bringing football home as it welcomes some of the game’s biggest heroes on match days.

The Giraffe Lounge, at Waterloo Square, Newcastle, is to host some of NUFC’s most popular stars on Saturday afternoons throughout the 2017-18 football season.

Starting this weekend (Saturday 26 August) football legends and fans favourites will be appearing at the bar on home game days, to help get people into the pre-match spirit.

Malcolm ‘Supermac’ MacDonald will be the first of Newcastle’s sporting legends to drop into the newly refitted bar, which re-opened last week following a rebrand and facelift.

John Heron, managing director of St Camillus Leisure which owns the Giraffe Lounge, wants to make the bar a welcoming place for football fans on match days.

“Football is such a major part of Newcastle’s culture and heritage that we wanted to encourage supporters to come and join us to help celebrate everything that is great about Newcastle United,” he said.

“We have just re-opened after a large refurbishment, and are keen to become one of the places people in the city can come to enjoy a drink before or after a home game.

“Football is at the heart of everything in Newcastle, and we want fans to know we are here and that they’re most welcome to join us on these important days.”

The Giraffe Lounge – formerly The Bottle Shop Bar and Kitchen – opened earlier this month after a major rebrand. It now offers a larger selection of drinks and cocktails plus an extended food menu including lunches and daytime snacks.
