Specialist advisers to the healthcare sector BW Medical Accountants has announced that David Elliot has been promoted to board level taking the role of tax director.
David has over 30 years experience in the tax and accountancy profession; he joined the Gosforth based medical accountancy firm in August 2013 as a tax adviser and has proved to be an invaluable member of the team.
He will now be overseeing tax compliance of the company’s client base including almost 100 GP practices and 1,000 medical professionals. He is also responsible for the compilation of internal taxation registers, tracking and recording systems.
David said: “I’m thrilled at being appointed a director and thank the board for this recognition of the quality of the work I have undertaken for BW Medical’s clients during the last three and a half years.”
David embarked upon his career in taxation in 1986 at the Inland Revenue (now HM Revenue & Customs) as an administrative tax assistant and since then gained valuable experience managing a portfolio of healthcare clients on behalf of RMT accountants.
After 26 years with RMT, David joined his former colleagues Peter Waller and Keith Taylor at BW Medical Accountants, where he brings his experience of working exclusively with healthcare clients.
He said: “The role I perform is varied and very interesting, reaching far beyond just dealing with taxation compliance issues. I would say that the most satisfying aspect of my job is working alongside a team of professionals who truly are the best at what they do.
“Together we are able to give our client base a service which exceeds their expectations and continues to gain us a nationwide reputation as the only truly niche firm of specialist medical accountants with a unique product to match our vast expertise.
“I’m looking forward to expanding my role at BW Medical to tax director following the company’s rapid growth and continuing to build on our track record of delivering exceptional service for our clients along with the rest of the team.
“BW Medical Accountants are genuinely worthy of the title of ‘specialist medical accountants’, something I care passionately about given that healthcare professionals have very specific financial requirements. It is imperative that they can access expert advice from experienced professionals who understand the terminology and tax implications at every stage of their career, whether they work in the NHS or private sector.
“I’m delighted to have been part of this firm’s success to date and look forward to contributing to our continuing success in the future.”
The appointment comes as BW Medical Accountants has experienced a period of rapid growth, expanding their client base from zero when the firm was launched in 2013 to 1,000 NHS healthcare professionals in three years and attracting a workforce of the most experienced medical accountants in the North East.
Kevin Walker, NHS Pension Expert and Director at BW Medical Accountants, said: “At BW Medical Accountants we’re firmly invested in developing our team and it’s fantastic that we can reward David’s years of service and expertise by promoting him to the board as tax director.
“He has already shown that he has in-depth knowledge needed to succeed in the highly specialised medical accountancy sector, and is the right person to help lead our team forward into 2017.”
