MANTRA Thai Dining is inviting Great North runners to exercise their taste buds and enjoy a tasty reward for completing the popular half marathon.

The authentic Thai restaurant is offering hungry runners a free starter or free dessert with the purchase of a main course dish from Sunday 11 September, the day of the run, until Sunday 18 September.

Located on Forth Banks in Newcastle, near to the Quayside route of the Junior Great North Run, young runners will also be congratulated, as children who complete the run will receive a free children’s meal, with the purchase of an adult’s main course dish.

All runners have to do, is simply show their Great North Run 2016 medal or Junior Great North Run 2016 medal to claim their freebie.

Known for its flavoursome Thai cuisine, just some of starters which runners could select as their special treat include Chicken Satay, Thai Fish Cakes, Duck Spring Rolls and Prawn and Chicken Toast. For runners with a sweet tooth, dessert options include Banana Fritter served with vanilla ice-cream, Pandan Pancake flavoured with sweet coconut, the cooling Mantra Affogato, and Panna Cotta, which are all new additions to the restaurant’s dessert menu.

Jeab Prapunwong, owner of Mantra Thai, said: “The Great North Run is such an iconic event in the region and we think that runners should be rewarded for taking on the challenge as it isn’t easy – something I know having completed the run a number of times myself.

“A lot of effort goes into preparing for the event, including training and often raising funds for charity, so we want to say well done to successful runners the best way we know how – by offering a tasty reward, including a free starter of free dessert, or a free children’s meal for young runners.”
