Newcastle United have announced their squad numbers for the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign.
Summer signing Dwight Gayle has taken on the iconic number nine shirt, following in the footsteps of Alan Shearer, Jackie Milburn and Malcolm Macdonald among others.
Ex-Bournemouth winger Matt Ritchie will wear the number 11, while new defenders Ciaran Clark, Grant Hanley and Jesus Gamez have taken on 2, 5 and 27 respectively.
Goalkeeper Matz Sels, who arrived from Gent last month, has the number 28 shirt, and midfielder Isaac Hayden has been confirmed as United’s number 14.
At this point, Mohamed Diame has not been issued a squad number but will be imminently.
Elsewhere in the squad, new Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles switches to number six, which has been vacant since January following the departure of Mike Williamson, and Yoan Gouffran will wear 20.
