Newcastle United will travel to Southend United for a pre-season friendly later this month.
The Magpies head to Roots Hall on Tuesday, 26th July, for a 7.45pm kick-off, where they will face a Shrimpers side who finished 15th in League One last term.
Southend are managed by former Hull boss Phil Brown, who hails from South Shields, and their Essex-based stadium has a capacity of 12,392.
The teams have met four times in competitive action, with their last clash coming in January 1993 at Roots Hall, when Gavin Peacock’s goal helped United claim a 1-1 draw en route to the Division One title.
The fixture takes Newcastle’s first team pre-season campaign to five matches, with games also scheduled against Bohemian (Saturday, 16th July), Doncaster Rovers (Wednesday, 20th July), KSC Lokeren (Saturday, 23rd July) and Vitesse (Saturday, 30th July).
