NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau will be shining a spotlight on NewcastleGateshead’s conference and events offering at one of the UK’s leading trade exhibitions, International Confex, from the 1 – 2 March 2017 marking their 15th anniversary at the show.

Recently named host city for the Great Exhibition of the North 2018, which is predicted to be the biggest event of its kind in the UK next year. The £10 million, three month programme of events will showcase the best of innovation, culture and design from across the North of England, and is just one of the many exciting projects NewcastleGateshead has to shout about.

International Confex is one of the biggest, and longest established showcase events for the industry in the UK. Every year NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau attends this iconic tradeshow alongside a range of different venues, hotels and support services, providing expert advice on how organisers can host unforgettable meetings and events in the North East of England.

Paul Szomoru, Head of Business Tourism, said: “International Confex is a key date in our diary, which we always look forward to attending. Our presence has evolved and grown over the past 15 years, our vibrant stand is visible throughout the show, and together with our brilliant stand partners we strive to mirror the famous Geordie welcome and friendly personality that we know delegates experience when they’re in our city.

“The meetings and events industry is worth an estimated £104m to the North East economy. International trade shows, such as Confex, allow us to promote the fantastic and evolving offering of the North East from our outstanding venues and accommodation to the unforgettable delegate experience our cultural destination has to offer.”

In 2016 NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau’s attendance at Confex secured enquiries worth a potential £4.9m to the local economy and the team plan to build upon this success in March.

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau works in partnership with the regions venues, accommodation and support service providers to ensure conference organisers have a seamless experience and delegates have a genuinely inspiring time. At International Confex the bureau will be joined by some of these partners including:

  • Sage Gateshead
  • Newcastle United Football Club
  • Metro Radio Arena
  • The Crowne Plaza – Stephenson Quarter and Boiler Shop.
