News from British Basketball League: Montell McRae joins NixNation

Cheshire Phoenix are happy to announce the signing of American Power Forward Montell McRae for the 2019-20 BBL season.

The 6’10 Forward comes to the Nix following a very successful college career with the Buffalo Bulls. McRae has been crowned a MAC Regular Season and MAC Tournament winner in his last two seasons in college.

Montell played a huge part in his team’s success during his senior year starting all of his 36 games playing 16 minutes per game. During his time on the court he was very productive averaging 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds whilst shooting a very impressive 55% from 2 point range and 36% from beyond the arc.

“I’m happy that we have been able to sign a player of Montell’s quality,” said head coach Ben Thomas.

“He’s a great team mate and he’s willing to do whatever his team needs for us to be successful! Montell is definitely bringing a winning mentality to the Phoenix after being with Buffalo, his team have been one of the most impressive in the NCAA over the past two seasons beating highly ranked teams such as West Virginia and Syracuse to name just a couple.

“His versatility on both ends of the court will make him stand out in this league. Offensively he is quick for his size and will cause a lot of problems for other bigs, he also has a great shooting percentage from 3 point range which will help us stretch the floor. Defensively his athleticism will definitely help us, he’s capable of defending multiple positions which will help us in becoming a much more aggressive defensive team.”

After signing his first professional contract, Montell commented, “Firstly, I would like to thank the staff of Cheshire Phoenix for the opportunity, I am very happy to be here and be part of this club.”

“I am very excited to meet my new teammates and all of the fans. I’m excited for this upcoming season and can’t wait to become part of the #NixNation family. I know me and my teammates are going to have a great season and create some unforgettable moments.”
