News from British Basketball League: Rocks pen Lavandier to permanent deal

The Radisson RED Glasgow Rocks have announced interim head coach Vincent Lavandier will take the job on a permanent basis with an an agreement until the end of the 2020-21 BBL season.
The reigning Molten Kevin Cadle BBL Coach of the Month has had an incredibly successful run since arriving in Glasgow from the France, guiding the team to seven victories in his first nine games at the helm and pushed the Rocks firmly back into the playoff picture.
“We are thrilled to be announcing Vincent as our head coach,” said owner, Duncan Smillie. “For the Rocks and the BBL to be able to attract someone of Vincent’s quality demonstrates the progress we are making as a sport in the UK.
“Vincent’s basketball IQ is off the charts and when you combine that with his ability to teach, coach and develop players then you really have a first-class coach on board, we’ve seen evidence of this on the court since his arrival and that’s been reflected in our results.
“I hope that Vincent is our head coach for many years to come, for now this is a 2-year contract until the end of the 2020/21 season, and I can’t put into words how pleased I am to have secured his services. He’s a top-level coach and this is a game changer for Glasgow Rocks.”
Coach Lavandier added: “I thank the Rocks organisation and especially Duncan Smillie for their confidence in me.
“When I came, I discovered a structured club, a championship and fans who welcomed me very well. It seemed natural to continue the adventure here in Glasgow. So, I thank my players who, thanks to their listening, their daily investment has allowed me to get good results lately.
“My desire is to continue the development of Rocks by bringing my experience, my French touch.”
The Rocks visit Leicester Riders tonight before hosting Cheshire Phoenix, on Sunday with the game to be streamed LIVE on the BBL’s Facebook page.
