Demonstrating the buoyancy of the North East construction market, Newcastle based Turner & Townsend hosted an event on 8th February for 200 construction industry representatives and stakeholders from across the region at the BALTIC Gateshead.

“2018 has already seen Newcastle host the launch of Transport for the North’s draft Strategic Transport Plan – which aims to drive growth and close the economic gap between the North and the rest of England in the next 30 years. The plan could deliver a £100bn boost to the economy and 850,000 additional jobs by 2050.
“Emerging priorities for the North East include upgrading highways to the rest of the North and Scotland, the Northumberland to Newcastle rail link as well as improved access to Newcastle Airport.
“Hosting our annual event is a great way to demonstrate our thanks to our clients and fellow professionals, reminding ourselves what is achievable when we work collaboratively.”
In the past year, Turner & Townsend has seen successful outcomes on a number of its projects:
- Innovative and value-adding services resulting in £72.5m savings generated on the Northumbrian Water Programme of works (AMP6) delivering commercial and project management, and programme controls in support of the AMP6 investment programme
- £2m saving on a procured scheme with St John’s College, Durham University, contract let at £2.6m; to build a Learning Resource Centre delivering lead consultant, employer’s agent, cost management and contract services
- Dinwoodie Assessment and Simulation Hub, delivering value for a £280,000, award-winning project; Infrastructure Project of the Year at the 2017 Constructing Excellence North East Awards, Turner & Townsend delivered project and cost management services
- 800 student accommodation beds delivered on programme in Durham with Ernest Place for Studious Investment Management and in Newcastle with The Shield for Curlew Capital.
