A North East workplace safety expert is putting her industry expertise to practical use with the launch of her own health & safety consultancy.
Emma Williams has set up Alluvia to provide tailored, pragmatic risk management advice to businesses of all sizes, as well as workforce learning and development.
Other services offered by the Northumberland-based firm include strategic safety strategy development, employee engagement, senior leadership support, training delivery and compliance support.
Emma began her career in the further education sector, where she discovered her passion for health and safety, and decided to retrain after completing an engineering degree with the Open University.
She has since built up over a decade’s experience in health and safety roles, including in the further education sector and with regional organisations such as Northumbrian Water and Northern Powergrid.
She holds a National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety from the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) and is also a Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
Emma Williams says: “To be properly effective, health and safety has to be much more than simply a tick box exercise.
“It needs to be something that staff at every level of a business understand and actively buy into if it’s going to have the positive impact on business culture and operations that it should.
“Our aim is to help to build safer, healthier workplaces by delivering tailored, practical solutions that enhance employee wellbeing, strengthen safety culture and enable employers to excel when meeting their health and safety responsibilities.”
Alluvia is already building an impressive North East client base, with contracts and projects secured from businesses in the construction, renewable energy and public sectors.
Emma Williams continues: “The hands-on experience I’ve had in a number of industry roles gives me a clear insight into how the required outcomes can be realised, and my aim is to work in partnership with clients to help them achieve their workplace safety objectives.
“I knew the market demand would be there for the advice and services Alluvia is providing, but it’s nevertheless very pleasing to see things taking off so quickly.
“It’s also rewarding to see the advice and guidance I’m providing to my clients directly leading to the sort of positive outcomes that they require and to taking control of my own future by running my own business.”
