A NORTH EAST budget hotel is saying “you’re not welcome” after discovering it was being recommended as a place to stay by white supremacist groups.

The owners of backpackers hostel, The Albatross at Grainger Street, Newcastle were horrified to find they were being flagged up to people attending the White Man March in Newcastle on Saturday (March 21).

The hotel, which offers the cheapest rates in the region of £16.50p per person per night, was being suggested by a number of sites supporting the march organised by white supremacist group, National Action, as a good place to stay.

But now the hotel owners – the Malhotra Group – are anxious to point out that they had no knowledge of the recommendation and that they are completely opposed to the rally or any event that promotes fascism.

“We abhor anything of this nature and certainly anyone coming to Newcastle who attends an event like this would not be welcome at our hotel,” said a spokesman for the owners.

“We just want to make it clear that we had no idea that the hostel was being suggested as a base for those supporting this march and we are completely against it.

“We do not want to have any association with anyone who promotes fascism or racism.”

The Albatross, voted Best Youth Hostel in the UK by travel experts Hostel World, also puts an emphasis on safety with CCTV cameras, electronic room keys and an on-site, live-in management team.
