Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

North East leads Northern Powerhouse mission to India

The Federation of Asian Business (FAB) has joined forces with the North East Growth Hub to promote a trade mission to India.

The Northern Powerhouse Indian Trade Mission, organised by the Federation of Asian Businesses, is taking place this November. The trip is open to any local business, looking to increase their footprint and accelerate growth in exciting and emerging markets such as India.

Recording an annual average growth rate of 7.5% from 2004 to 2013, India’s economy is an emerging powerhouse – now growing faster than China. Forecast to be the 7th largest in the world by 2019, India’s economy is set to exceed the size of the UK’s within the next few years presenting a huge opportunity for UK businesses.

The Northern Powerhouse Indian Trade Mission will focus on the North’s key industries of manufacturing, digital and health innovation, such as bioscience, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. There will also be opportunities for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with education and industrial Institutes.

Businesses that take part in the mission will be given the chance to meet with senior Indian officials, such as Government Ministers, Chamber of Commerce chiefs and policy makers.

Ammar Mirza CBE, board member North East LEP “The Northern Powerhouse has a lot to offer countries such as India, whilst India’s fast-growing economy present exciting opportunities for North East businesses to grow beyond our borders. I would urge any business that is looking to expand and is curious about new opportunities in India, to take advantage of this opportunity and sign up to get involved today.”

Jake Berry MP, the Minister for the Northern Powerhouse said “As Britain prepares to leave the European Union, it is now more important than ever for businesses in the North East to forge new trade relationships with global partners such as India. This private-sector led trade mission showcase the best of the Northern Powerhouse, demonstrating the initiative and determination of business in the North.”

Sharon Jandu, administrator to the Federation of Asian Businesses said “Asians and British Asians account for around 7% of the UK population, but we make a huge contribution to the UK’s economy. This trade mission is an opportunity for local businesses to directly benefit from the links within the British Asian community to India.”
