This Pancake Day, Asda stores in Gateshead and Washington will be working together to host a fundraising coffee morning with the cancer charity FACT – Fighting All Cancers Together – which will raise vital funds to allow the charity to continue to provide support in the local community.

The coffee morning will see community colleagues from Asda’s Gateshead and Washington stores supplying and dishing out Asda’s own pancakes, that are made fresh in the in-store bakeries every day, in a bid to help raise as much money as possible, whilst enjoying the seasonal fare.

The two Asda stores have some of the highest pancake sales in the north of England, with the stores selling over 50,000 packs of the flipping tasty treats last year, equating to approximately 270,000 individual pancakes.

The event will hopefully see pancake fans across the area stop by between 10.30am- 12.30pm on 5 March at the FACT Cancer Support headquarters on Clasper Way in Swalwell to get their pancake fix whilst helping a great local cause.

Caroline Nevin, community engagement assistant at FACT Cancer Support, said; “We’re so grateful for the support of Asda with our fundraising events and we know the pancakes will be a hit at our coffee morning – we couldn’t not do pancakes for Pancake Day after all.

“We really do rely on donations and support from both businesses and individuals in the community to continue to deliver the support for those battling cancer in the local area. Donations small and large make all the difference, from buying a pancake to supplying us with products to sell to raise funds.”

FACT is a North East charity that began as a volunteer-run help group and are now in their eleventh year of providing help, support and social opportunities to those going through the cancer journey. They offer a range of services to benefit cancer patients and their families including one to one counselling, support sessions, complimentary therapies and health and lifestyle sessions, not to mention providing ‘Kindness Kits’ for those who are struggling financially and suffering from cancer.

Lynn Ivison, Asda Gateshead’s community colleague, said; “Every year our store is one of the top performers for pancake sales so we’re hoping the love of these tasty treats will go down a storm on Tuesday and we can raise plenty of money for FACT, who really do some wonderful work in the local community.

“Both myself and Maureen Wallwork from the Washington store will be on hand to dish out all kinds of pancake flavours from white chocolate chip and maple to lemon and fruit – we’re catering to everyone’s pancake preferences, so we hope to see a great turnout and healthy appetites, so we can make the most of this fundraising morning.”
