The North East based retail technology company Ocucon have been named as one of the best digital retail innovators globally for 2020 for their occupancy management system Occupi.
Compiled by the publication Retail Insider, the Digital Retail Innovations 2020 list consists of 60 companies from across the world who have made the most impact in the industry with their digitally led innovations.
Each solution, chosen by experts from across the industry, are judged on how innovative it is, how potentially commercial it is, what potential benefit it has, and what potential benefit it possesses. Occupi placed inside the top 30, beating the likes of; Walmart, Levi’s, Amazon, and Starbucks for the 29th position.
Ocucon CEO, Gary Trotter said: “We’re delighted to be recognised by Retail Insider as one of top digital retail innovations of the year. Though we only launched Occupi in March, outranking such prestigious companies such as Amazon really pays testament to just how much of an impact it has had on the industry in such a short space of time.
“Our team are working hard in continuing to update and adapt the Occupi System to ensure that the retail experience for both shoppers and staff is as safe and possible.”
Occupi uses deep learning technology to accurately assess how many people are in a store and works in tandem with a traffic light entry system to stop people entering until it is safe to do so.
In the latest update to the system, Occupi API allows a retailer to report in real time the number of customers in a store from this monitoring system, and to display it on their websites or apps. This means businesses can significantly enhance their customers’ experience, allowing them to make an informed decision, avoiding an unnecessary journey and long queues in the increasingly cold weather.
