North East veterinary charity WECare Worldwide has announced its fourth annual Winter Wonderland fundraising ball, and they’d love for you to join.

Charity founder and ‘supervet’ Janey Lowes is flying in from the charity’s base in Sri Lanka to kick off the festive season in style on Saturday 24th November at The Assembly Rooms in Newcastle.

Expect an evening of fine food, delicious drinks, and a whole load of dancing. Live music and a spellbinding magician will be on hand to entertain you, and guests will even have the chance to win a whole host of fantastic prizes in an auction and raffle, including a yoga retreat in Sri Lanka, a luxury weekend break in Newcastle and a Sky Sports Tour. As well as an auction, entertainment from some of the North East’s finest acts will be performing live including Los Capitanes, North Road and Rhiannon Soulsby.

You might recognise Janey as the star of BBC’s Inside Out programme last year, which focused on her important work for animals in Sri Lanka.

Award-winning Gosforth vet Janey was holidaying on the beautiful island of Sri Lanka in 2014 when she noticed the desperate plight of sick and injured animals, who were going without treatment. Determined to make a change, she set up WECare Worldwide with Westway Vets and has been saving lives on the island ever since.

No two days are the same over in Sri Lanka, but one thing is guaranteed – without the generosity of businesses and the kind-hearted general public, many sick and injured dogs in Sri Lanka would die, or live a life of needless pain.

Thankfully, this has been avoided for dogs like the lovely Walter, who was found with a huge sexually transmitted tumour, the gorgeous Roo, who bounced back to life after a leg amputation, and the many dogs in Arugam Bay who benefited from WECare’s recent CNVR (capture, neuter, vaccinate, release) programme.

Of course, it’s not just about dogs – cats, monkeys, cows, goats and…a bat are just some of the animals who have benefitted from the charity’s presence on the island.

Now, Janey and her dedicated team of local and international vets and nurses need your help more than ever. They tirelessly provide their skills for free on the island, but medicine and equipment is expensive.  This is why the annual winter fundraising ball is so important.

The Winter Wonderland ball is sponsored by PetPlan and Network ROI. James Barnes, head of partnerships, Petplan commented:

“For the fourth year in a row, we are delighted to be the main sponsor for the WECare Winter Wonderland Ball. Petplan values its strong relationship with veterinary professionals and works with over 1,200 animal charities across the UK, providing support in a variety of ways to help improve the lives of animals.”

Adam Johnson, Managing Director commented: “At Network ROI, we are absolutely delighted to be sponsoring WECare Worldwide’s 4th annual winter wonderland ball. As an Employee Owned company, giving something back to the community and supporting local charities is really important to us, it’s embedded into our organisation as part of our culture. We’ve supported WECare for a number of years now and always look forward to this annual event.”
