THE North East’s much-loved family scare event is getting ready for visitors bricking it – in the most positive way possible.
Family Fright Fest will return to Lintz Hall Farm, Burnopfield this autumn, with a packed programme of live entertainment, child friendly scares, pumpkin picking and interactive crafting and creative sessions.
And this time round the event – which runs from Saturday 10 October and then runs every weekend right up until Halloween, including Friday 30 October – is adding in a whole new element which will combine fun with education.
Family Fright Fest has teamed up with the much-loved Kids-Hub, which helps youngsters learn about coding and robotics in an entertaining and informative way.
Run by creator of Kids-Hub, Margaux Wild, the sessions will feature Lego Robotics, where young people will be able to design, build and programme interactive LEGO models using motors, sensors, lights and coding.
“Because of the time of year and the event we will also be working around a Halloween theme,” said Margaux.
“We are so excited to be part of Family Fright Fest for the first time and work with young people on what will be fantastic fun but will also give them a range of useful skills at the same time.”
Kids-Hub runs a range of events including summer clubs, along with working with a number of schools.
The engineering challenges that are part of the sessions help the young people not only learn the principles of engineering but also problem solving and digital skills.
“There’s a huge educational benefit to what we do and we have seen so many of the children who have worked with us absolutely flourish,” said Margaux.
The sessions – which can be booked via the Family Frightfest website – carry a cost of £8 a child, with initially two sessions available each day.
Nigel Holliday, one of the directors of Family Fright Fest and its adult counterpart, Psycho Path, said he was delighted to have Kids-Hub involved.
“Every year we try to bring in other element to make a visit to Family Fright Fest even more special,” he said.
“We were well aware of the fantastic work that Kids-Hub does and we are thrilled to be able to offer these amazing sessions at this year’s event.”
