North Road Works: 50 Years of Memories Coffee Morning & NELPG visit

Former North Road Works employees are being offered another chance to catch up with old colleagues at Head of Steam – Darlington Railway Museum.

The museum will be hosting a coffee morning on Thursday 23 February, 11am-1pm, as part of its North Road Works: 50 Years of Memories project.

There will also be the opportunity to visit Hopetown Carriage Works to see the work being carried out by the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) on the J72 locomotive which is undergoing routine winter maintenance.

North Road Works: 50 Years of Memories was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the closure of the locomotive works in 1966. An online archive of memories was created by former employees, their relatives and people who lived nearby. The memories are available to read at https://northroadworksmemories.wordpress.com/

Alison Grange, Collections and Learning Assistant at the museum, said:

“This is another fantastic opportunity for former colleagues to catch up and have a look an engine built at North Road Works in the 1950s.”

The coffee morning is free and free parking is available at the museum. If you would like to attend, please contact the museum on 01325 405542.
