North Yorkshire fracking application planning meeting adjourned

North Yorkshire’s planning and regulatory functions committee has adjourned until Monday May 23 in its consideration of Third Energy’s application to undertake fracking for shale gas in the vicinity of Kirby Misperton.

The planning committee has listened openly and very carefully to more than 75 speakers today and to all the points they have raised.  The County Council is enabling as many people as possible to see and listen to the planning committee proceedings through live-streaming on YouTube, regular social media updates, audio relay of the meeting into the grounds of County Hall and facilities for visitors. It is estimated that up to 500 people have attended to protest.

These communication arrangements and facilities will continue on Monday May 23. Richard Flinton, North Yorkshire’s chief executive, said: “It has been an important day for the county as well as an interesting day and we wish to thank all of those who have engaged with the process of the meeting so far in such a constructive way.

“We wish to thank all the staff and partners who have made this event possible in order for people to engage in the democratic process. We look forward to coming back on Monday to carry on these important deliberations.”
