Northside Farm in Horsley has reported seeing a 200% increase in couples wishing to include their pets in their weddings over the past year, aligning with a growing UK‑wide trend toward more personalised, pet‑friendly celebrations.
According to the Office for National Statistics, pet ownership remains a major part of UK life, with recent surveys tracking pet‑related behaviours and attitudes across Great Britain. This cultural shift is reflected in the wedding industry, where venues are increasingly adapting to couples’ desire to involve their animals.
Owner Olivia Lockey says the rise in pet-inclusive wedding bookings at Northside Farm has been ‘extraordinary’.
“As a nation of animal lovers, pets are such a huge part of people’s everyday lives, so it’s only natural that couples want them involved in their big day,” she said.
“Although we have always prided ourselves in being a no-restrictions venue, we have always embraced a flexible, family‑focused approach too at Northside Farm, and that extends to pets of all species. Last year we saw everything from tiny terriers in bow ties to horses or tortoises joining the bridal party and around half of bookings we have for 2026, will include a pet.”
The wider UK wedding landscape continues to evolve, with around 265,000 couples marrying each year and a strong shift toward personalised, non‑traditional ceremonies. Industry reports show couples increasingly prioritise venues that offer flexibility, outdoor space, and the ability to customise their day.
With Northside Farm being set across 400 acres of land surrounded by the Northumberland landscape, its exclusive‑use barn, gin gang, glamping pods, fairytale cottages and expansive outdoor areas make it an ideal choice for couples wanting to include their four‑legged family members.
Olivia added: “Weddings today are all about personality and meaning. For many couples, having their pets by their side is what makes the day truly special and we’re delighted to help bring those moments to life.”
According to Olivia, how couples planned to include their pets in their wedding day ranged from being part of the first dance, walking the bride down the aisle, being the ‘Dog of Honour’ or ‘Best Mutt’, or taking responsibility as the ring bearer.
Situated just ten miles west of Newcastle city centre Northside Farm was established in 2011 originally as a glamping site and since converting their rustic barn, and original Gin Gang, courtyard and gardens by hand, since 2016, along with building four fairy tale-style cottages and a larger restoration of the farm house into luxury accommodation specifically for weddings and large events, owners Ralph and Olivia Lockey continue to diversify with more development plans to be announced next year.
