A home furnishings online retailer, launched by two Teesside entrepreneurs, is celebrating a business milestone with the opening of a showroom.

Terence Turnbull and Gareth Thomas set-up the web-based fine furnishing business Turnbull and Thomas, to help discerning customers create their perfect home.

Now after only a few months, the company is at the stage where it is able to establish a showroom at Eaglescliffe to further showcase the furniture on offer.

The business partners’ combined career backgrounds and business knowledge makes them well-suited to offer exceptional customer service.

Gareth is an established entrepreneur as he is Managing Director of Teesside manufacturing firm, Icon Plastics at Eaglescliffe.

Terence has a meticulous attention to detail thanks to 24 years’ service in the Armed Forces where he forged a formidable reputation as a distribution, re-supply and logistics expert. He also has a wealth of retail experience, which most recently included four years as the general manager of an online furniture retailer.

Gareth’s interest in setting up a home furnishings business was prompted when he built his own house. He used the very best materials to construct his dream property, but struggled to find furniture with the style, flair and level of quality to match its high standard.

This sparked an ambition to use his entrepreneurial abilities and knowledge to open a business to fill this gap in the market, which has led to the creation of Turnbull and Thomas, which started out as an online business and now has a showroom at Urlay Nook Road, which will open to the public on Saturday September 26.

Director Gareth said: “I have harboured the thought of launching a home furnishing retail service since building my own home several years ago.   This burning ambition now has come to fruition thanks to linking up Terence, who brings extensive retail sector experience to the business partnership.”

Terence, who is Managing Director, said:  “I am relishing the challenge of running my own company and it is pleasing to see that the business is growing and developing with the launch of a showroom on Teesside.”

Turnbull and Thomas’s fine furnishings embrace both tradition and contemporary finishes with exquisite upholstery, shabby-chic and French-inspired pieces that demonstrate the highest levels of craftsmanship. Its designer ranges transcend luxury with a stunning selection of bedroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and garden furniture as well as a wide array of accessories such as ornaments, mirrors and lighting to assist in creating homes that reflect every customer’s personality, lifestyle and aspirations.

The new showroom works in tandem with the website – www.turnbullandthomas.co.uk – where customers can browse and order the extensive range of furniture and home accessories.
