Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Open day for new Sowerby extra care scheme

Sowerby GatePeople interested in a fantastic new extra care scheme in Sowerby can learn more about its benefits at a special open day being held on 1st August.

To be held from 10am to 2pm at the existing Meadowfields extra care site on Chapel Street, Thirsk, the event will showcase the brand-new Herriot Gardens development which is aimed at people aged 55+ who might need support to live independently.

The open day will give people the chance to find out about the high quality accommodation and levels of care and support the scheme will offer. Staff will also be on hand to answer any questions that people might have.

The new extra care housing scheme at Herriot Gardens, Sowerby will be known as Orchid House. It will offer 64 one and two bedroom apartments for rent, shared ownership or sale in a supportive community that will be staffed 24 hours a day. 26 two-bedroom bungalows surrounding Orchid House will be on Acacia Drive.

Orchid House is set across three floors and will include a communal area on each floor and an attractive garden room for residents to enjoy. Opening onto the main piazza called Campion Square, the extra care apartments will be part of a new community hub with retail units and a café/bistro.

All the properties have been designed to provide high quality accommodation for those requiring additional levels of care and support and easy access to enable them to maintain a high level of independence.

Tristar Homes – part of the Thirteen Group – is working in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council and construction company Galliford Try Partnerships North, supported by funding from the Homes and Communities Agency. Galliford Try’s housebuilding division, Linden Homes, will market the properties for sale while the community facilities and homes for rent will be operated by Tristar Homes.

Martin Hawthorne, Group Director of Development and Regeneration at Thirteen Group, said: “The open day at Meadowfields will allow people to learn more about extra care and how it supports independent living.

“Herriot Gardens is an exceptional development and we are looking forward to meeting prospective residents and highlighting the benefits of bespoke extra care schemes.”
