Open Day Planned for Alnwick Extra Care Scheme

Screen Shot 2015-06-15 at 12.49.53An open day has been organised for people interested in finding out more information about the new Extra Care development currently being developed in Alnwick.

The event will be held at the Northumberland Hall in Alnwick town centre between 10.00am and 2.00pm this Saturday, June 20.

Staff from Isos Housing and estate agent Your Move will be on hand to unveil floor plans and answer any questions about the new development. A sales brochure will also be available for people to take away with them.

Due for completion in Spring 2016, Weavers’ Court will be a state-of-the-art Extra Care housing development for people aged 55 and over.

The development, which is located off Weavers’ Way on the south side of Alnwick, will include 58 one and two-bedroom apartments available to buy through shared ownership or to rent from Isos Housing.  It will boast a range of shared facilities for residents to enjoy including a convenience shop, communal lounge, restaurant, coffee shop and hair salon.

Extra Care schemes like Weavers’ Court are designed to promote independence in older and vulnerable people, while enabling those with chronic and other health conditions to live in the community, preventing admissions to residential care.

Each of the spacious, modern, one and two bedroom apartments will include a large lounge/diner, kitchen and storage space as well as a private terrace or balcony. A scheme manager, employed by Isos Housing, will oversee the scheme’s day-to-day running, with care provision available on site if needed.

Michael Farr, executive director of development and property at Isos Housing, said: “Although Weavers’ Court is not expected to be completed until next Spring, we have already received a lot of enquiries about this development.

“The open day will be a good opportunity for anybody interested in buying an apartment and to see which are currently available to reserve off plan.  It will also give people the opportunity to ask questions about the development and for our staff to understand the particular needs of each potential buyer in order to match them with a property or finance product which best suits their requirements.

“The open day is a free event and you don’t need to make an appointment.  Just come along to the Northumberland Hall this Saturday between 10am and 2pm to pick up an information brochure and speak to our staff.”

When complete, residents at Weavers’ Court will enjoy fantastic views to the south of Alnwick from the three-storey development, which is being built by Galliford Try Partnerships North.

The scheme’s award winning architects idpartnership have ensured the scheme complies with Lifetime Homes and Wheelchair Design Guide standards and uses ‘HAPPI’ (Housing our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation) principles and best practice. Construction work is being project managed by Plan B Housing and Elliott Associates.

The scheme has received over £1.9 million from the Department of Health’s Extra Care Housing fund which is currently funding the construction of 3,544 new Extra Care homes.  The fund is managed and delivered by the Homes and Communities Agency.

Under shared ownership, a share in a one or two-bedroom apartment at Weavers’ Court can be purchased on a part buy, part rent basis.  Purchasers can buy up to a 75% share in the property and must be aged 55 or over and have a housing or recognised care need.

Prices range from £93,750 for a maximum 75% share in a one-bedroom apartment or £103,125 for the same share of a two-bedroom apartment.  Additional service charges will apply.
