Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Open day to showcase high quality homes for over 60s

Screen Shot 2016-03-07 at 13.51.12Work has been completed to transform a North Tyneside building into a range of high quality homes, designed exclusively for tenants aged 60 and over.

North Tyneside Council has transformed Moorcroft in Annitsford (formerly Fernlea) into 28 one-bedroom and two bedroom apartments, offering tenants a private living space in a community setting.

Designed with quality and independent living in mind, the properties on the ground floor have semi-private patio areas and upper apartments have bay windows. There is a bright, comfortable shared lounge with lots of activities on offer for those who want to take part and a smaller ‘quiet’ shared lounge for reading, hobbies or just relaxation.

There is also a therapy room/beauty salon, a guest apartment where family and friends can stay as well as a range of organised activities and outings for those who wish to take part.

The complex is part of the local authority’s £300m North Tyneside Living project, which will see more than 920 modern, independent living homes created at 26 sites across the borough by 2017.

Open days are being held for people interested in viewing the properties. These are taking place on:

  • Thursday 10 March from 2pm to 7pm
  • Saturday 12 March from 10am to 2pm

Norma Redfearn, Elected Mayor said: “These are lovely homes and I’m delighted at the transformation at Moorcroft and the success to date of the North Tyneside Living scheme.

“These apartments offer older people the freedom to live independently in a bright and contemporary home whilst having the choice of being involved within a close community.

“Every detail – from the room layouts to window handles, taps to electrical sockets – has been carefully chosen to make life easier and this option of living has proved very popular amongst our residents. I would urge anyone interested to visit one of our open day events and see these fantastic homes for themselves.”
