A North East civil engineering firm has won a lucrative contract to extend on-site parking facilities at Quorum Business Park.
The Owen Pugh Group has been awarded a £400,000 contract to act as principal contractor to create 1.2 acres of extra car parking incorporating 165 additional spaces at Quorum which is located on the outskirts of Newcastle city centre. The car park extension has been brought about by the relocation of bakery giant Greggs who will house over 400 staff in a new headquarters on the business park during the first half of 2016.
The work has already started and will take around 12 weeks to complete. It is being undertaken by Owen Pugh Construction, which specialises in delivering innovative civil engineering construction and infrastructure services to government agencies, local authorities, private developers, industrial facilities, and utility companies, among others. Around 20 staff, including sub-contractors, will be involved in the scheme.
Lee Buchanan, operations manager at Owen Pugh Construction, said: “We are thrilled to be working on this project to improve and extend parking facilities at one of the North East’s premier business parks. With a team of highly skilled operatives on board, we’ve carried out work on similar projects before and we’re well placed to complete the work on time and within budget.”
The contract was awarded by Broadoak Asset Management, which runs the Quorum Business Park, on behalf of the parks owners. The car park extension will enable Greggs to realise the next stage of their growth here at Quorum.”
Quorum Business Park is a high profile business destination that is home to some of the region’s leading businesses including Home Group, Balfour Beatty and Tesco Bank with over 5,000 people now working on the park.
The Quorum Business Park extension is the latest in a series of contract wins for Owen Pugh which is on course to generate an expected £39million for the year 2014 to 2015. The company, which employs more than 400 staff across five sites, is also carrying out an 18-month earthworks contract to create a new 3.8km carriageway on the £30m Morpeth Northern Bypass scheme. In addition, its construction arm is also set to undertake work on an access road for Swan Hunter as well as on the Portland Green student village in Newcastle.
The scope of work delivered by Owen Pugh Construction varies from road and bridge construction, ports, harbours and sea defences, industrial facilities and office parks to urban renewal and environmental improvements, land reclamation, remediation and environmentally sensitive schemes.
