A new national register – inspired by a system developed in the North East – is making life easier for landlords in the region.
Northumbrian Water’s Landlord Property Management Portal is the only online database of its kind, but has proved so successful that utilities companies across the country have come together to develop a national platform.
The new portal was designed to allow landlords to easily provide the details of tenants responsible for paying water bills and to keep the information up to date.
The national register – Landlord TAP – places all let properties in England and Wales in one place.
Landlords who own multiple properties, supplied by different water companies due to their location, will now be required to use one portal only, rather than registering different tenants with multiple suppliers.
Northumbrian Water is asking those landlords who have previously registered tenant information with its own register to visit Landlord TAP and add details to the database. Alternatively, the company is offering to work with landlords to transfer the data on their behalf prior to the deletion of the old register.
Northumbrian Water’s customer manager, David Oliver, said: “The change in system is an ideal opportunity for landlords to update the details of those tenants responsible for paying water bills and we are here to help. Now, a landlord with properties in different parts of the country can use the national portal and everything is handled under one system.
“Many landlords who operate in the student accommodation market will find the change timely as they prepare for the departure of tenants at the end of the current academic year.”
Landlords wishing to register directly with the new national portal can visit www.landlordtap.com. Any landlords with questions or concerns about the system can contact Northumbrian Water at landlords@nwl.co.uk or on 0845 8506421 between 8am and 5pm,Monday to Friday.
