Pay What You Like for theatre tickets

Sep 17, 2016

Audiences are being invited to choose how much they pay for tickets to Gala Theatre’s latest production.

The Fighting Bradfords, which tells the moving story of the most celebrated brothers in British military history, is the theatre’s first in-house production for six years aside from its annual pantomime.

And to mark the occasion, Gala Theatre bosses are staging a special Pay What You Like performance on Monday, 12 September, when audience members will be invited to pay whatever price they wish for their tickets.

Robin Byers, Durham County Council’s service manager for place and experience, said: “The Fighting Bradfords is our first major in-house production for six years and we want as many people as possible to come along and see what promises to be a poignant and engaging piece of drama.

“We’re very excited to be able to offer people the chance to pay whatever they like for tickets. We hope it will encourage people who may not normally visit the theatre, or those who perhaps only attend on a weekend, to come along and experience a really engrossing piece of drama.”

Written by Tyneside-based Carina Rodney and directed by Psyche Stott, the Fighting Bradfords tells the story of Roland, George, James and Thomas Bradford from Witton Park.

All four men served during the First World War and all were heavily decorated for their bravery. However, only one of them made it home at the end of the conflict.

Drawing on first-hand accounts, correspondence and family anecdotes, the play explores what drove these remarkable brothers to become local and national heroes.

To book tickets for the special Pay What You Like performance, call Gala Theatre box office on 03000 266 600, choose the Monday, 12 September performance and decide how much you would like to pay.

The Fighting Bradfords runs from Thursday, 8 September to Saturday, 17 September.

Tickets for all other performances are priced at £15, £13 for concessions and £12 for Gala Theatre members, opening night and matinee performances.
