CHESTER-Le-Street care home residents kept their eyes on the pies in celebration of one of Britain’s favourite dishes.

A range of savoury and sweet shortcrusts was enjoyed by everyone at Pelton Grange Care Home as part of National Pie Week.

The home’s staff baked the residents favourite fillings, including corned beef and potatoe, pork, mince and onion, cherry and apple.

Resident Lillian Maxwell sampled all the pies and asked: “Can I have the pork pie for my son?”

Lindsay Sale-Thorn, activities coordinator at Pelton Grange Care Home, on Front Street, said: “We were worried about getting all the ingredients after nearly being snowed in the other week.

“Despite the difficulties, everyone pulled together to make sure the residents could still enjoy all our planned activities, including celebrating National Pie Week.

“It was great to make proper homemade pies and enjoy them for our afternoon tea.”
