Stuart Dawson joins the Killingworth based business as sales manager during a period of steady growth. The company recently announced it has achieved annual sales of £3.5m, up from £2.8m last year.

With more than 35 years’ experience in the sector, Stuart brings both technical and sales expertise to the role. He started his career as an engineer at the former Caterpillar site in Birtley before working for Barlow World Handling for more than 25 years. Most recently he was working at Windsor Materials Handling.

Stuart, 55, of Chester-le-Street, said: “Permatt provided the perfect next stage in my career. They’re a very progressive and ambitious company; they’re friendly, adaptable and are keen to continue growing.

“Permatt offer customers that perfect combination of an international, technical brand like Toyota along with a commitment to providing excellent service.”

Mark Percy, managing director said: “The appointment of somebody so experienced and connected as Stuart shows our intention to build on our recent growth across the North East and Cumbria. Stuart, along with some other appointments we’ve made, will focus on our strengths – the quality of our service and the Toyota vehicles we offer.”

Permatt, the largest independent fork lift truck supplier in the North East, is now well on the way to building 400 vehicles in its long and short term fleet of materials handling equipment.

Permatt employs 24 people at its custom-built premises on Camperdown Industrial Estate, Killingworth and depot in Penrith. Recruitment and training will continue to be an important feature for the business moving forwards.
