Port of Tyne to support award winning late-night culture crawl

For a fourth consecutive year, Port of Tyne will be partnering with Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums on the award-winning late-night culture crawl, The Late Shows.

Port of Tyne has supported The Late Shows since 2015, and now in its twelfth year, The Late Shows is set to have over 50 venues participating in its popular late-night culture crawl.

Andrew Moffat, Chief Executive Officer of Port of Tyne, said: “Port of Tyne is proud to support the Late Shows once again – providing great opportunities to explore exciting cultural and historical gems in NewcastleGateshead including the iconic Swing Bridge.”

Not only will Port of Tyne be a partner of The Late Shows, but it will also be taking part in the culture crawl itself as they open the doors to one of NewcastleGateshead’s most iconic landmarks, the Swing Bridge. Shows visitors will yet again have the chance to tour the mechanics and motor room of Armstrong’s pioneering bridge across the River Tyne.

Bill Griffiths, Head of Programmes at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums said “We’re very pleased to continue working with Port of Tyne. Their partnership has contributed to The Late Shows continuing to be a massive success in recent years. Not forgetting the great work they do with their fascinating tours of the Swing Bridge as part of The Late Shows weekend.

“The Late Shows is a unique fun and interactive way for NewcastleGateshead to showcase its brilliant cultural venues in two -jam-packed nights.”

The Late Shows will be running this year on Friday 18 – Saturday 19 May. The public will be able to book a place for Port of Tyne’s free tour of the Swing Bridge, when The Late Shows 2018 line-up is officially announced in April.

In addition to visiting the Swing Bridge visitors will also be able to visit over 50 other cultural venues in NewcastleGateshead over the weekend including Discovery Museum, the Laing Art Gallery, Seven Stories and Baltic Square.
