North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Screen Shot 2015-10-26 at 10.52.24TWO popular North East pubs are pulling out all the stops to give festive diners a feast to remember in the run up to Christmas.

The Runhead, Holburn Lane, Ryton and the Sandpiper, Farringdon Road, Culllercoats, have both created special Christmas Fayre menus for those looking to celebrate the occasion with family, friends or work colleagues.

And, as well as offering traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, each venue has devised alternative starters, main courses and desserts, making the most of seasonal produce.

The Sandpiper, with former Blackfriars head chef Dan Duggan at the helm, is serving starters of spiced parsnip soup, salmon and dill fishcakes and chicken, apricot and pistachio terrine.

These are followed by dishes such as confit shoulder of beef with horseradish mash, pan-seared sea bass or pumpkin risotto, with a choice of desserts which change daily.

Meanwhile, The Runhead Bar and Grill, Ryton, is tempting diners with a Christmas Fayre menu comprising starters of minestrone soup, farmhouse pâté, smoked salmon or prawn cocktail.

Main courses will include goat’s cheese and caramelised red onion tart, confit leg of lamb and smoked haddock fillet with asparagus, while desserts, such as red velvet cheesecake, citrus lemon tart and orange sorbet, will also be on offer.

The Christmas Fayre menus are available from 1 to 24 December with one course priced at £9.95, two at £13.95 and three at £17.95.

On Christmas Day itself the Sandpiper will be serving a special menu, which must be pre-booked and which costs £24.95 for children and £49.95 for adults, while The Runhead Bar and Grill will be open between 12 noon and 2pm for drinks only.

Both venues are owned by the Newcastle-based Malhotra Group plc. For information, or to make a reservation, at the Sandpiper call 0191 253 5050 or visit www.thesandpiperbar.co.uk
